THE ARTWORK

-

This folder includes four reproductions of artworks from four different collections. José Molina usually works, for his own admission, on collections, series that follow a theme, which recount a story and that take form through a specific style and a specific artistic image.

The collections enclosed in this folder follow the chronological order of creation: Morir para vivir, Predatores, Cosas Humanas and Los Olvidados.

Morir para Vivir talks about the theme of death as part of life. Starting from this point, the artist often talks about humankind and our vital cycle.

Predatores is thought almost as an human encyclopedia: each portrait realised by the artist embodies a characteristic or habit of our spieces, in a description of our society structured as a pyramidal hierarchy.

The collection then where the colour regains its power is Cosas Humanas: here, Molina's technical skills are enhanced by the innovative use of oil paint in his artworks.

Finally, in the last collection, Los Olvidados, the artist goes back to the black and white to describe the essence of figures that are almost mythological, but with human features. "The forgotten" (translation of Los Olvidados) are characters whose stories have been forgotten, and are here described by Molina with his extremely personal style.
